"Now listen here, you mullet. Why don't you just light your tampon, blow your box apart? Because it's the only bang you're ever gonna get, sweetheart!"
Description: Terence Stamp as drag queen Bernadette Basinger puts a burly woman named Shirley (June Marie Bennett) in her place in the rowdy Australian motion picture The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994).
Invited to perform at Alice Springs, a remote town in central Australia by her friend Marion who owns the establishment, drag queen Anthony "Tick" Belrose (Hugo Weaving), a.k.a. Mitzi Del Bra travels across the outback in a lavender tour bus (a "budget Barbie Camper") christened "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" to showcase a drag queen act for a four-week run. Accompanying Mitzi are transsexual Ralph Waite, a.k.a. Bernadette Basinger, and Adam Whitely (Guy Pearce), a.k.a. Felicia Jollygoodfellow.
|Bernadette:||[to bartender] Hello. Could I please have a Stoli and tonic, a Bloody Mary, and a lime daiquiri, please?|
|Shirley:||Well! Look what the cat dragged in! What have we got here, eh? A couple of show girls, have we? Where did you ladies come in from, Uranus?|
|Bernadette:||[to bartender] Could I please have a Sto...|
|Shirley:||[slaps Bernadette’s hand down onto the bar] No! You can’t have! You can’t have nothing! We’ve got nothing here for people like you. Nothing!|
|Bernadette:||[calm and collected] Now listen here, you mullet. Why don’t you just light your tampon and blow your box apart? Because it’s the only bang you’re ever gonna get, sweetheart.|
"You know, there are two things I don't like about you, Felicia... your face. So how 'bout shutting both of them?" - Mitzi [to Felicia]
When their tour bus breaks down they are assisted by Bob (Bill Hunter), a homosexual mechanic who tags along to Alice Springs, where the cabaret troupe discover that Tick and Marion had a child named Benjamin (Mark Holmes) whom Tick has not seen in years. Tick is relieved when his son knows about his drag queen lifestyle and is okay with it.
|Bernadette:||Stop flexing your muscles, you big pile of budgie turd. I'm sure your mates will be much more impressed if you just go back to the pub and fuck a couple of pigs on the bar.|
|Frank:||"Bernadette?" Well I'll be darned. The whole circus is in town. Well I suppose you wanna fuck too do you? Come on Bernadette, come and fuck me. That's it. Come on. Come and fuck me. Come on. Fuck me.|
|Bernadette:||[Bernadette knees Frank in the groin] There, now you're fucked!|
During their journey the "gals" find time to perform for desert Aborigine tribesmen, have their bus grafittied with the message "AIDS FUCKERS GO HOME!", fight off homophobes who attack Felicia, but Bob and Bernadette save the day and beat them down (after the scuffle, Bernadette tells Felicia, "At least the bump on your head is bigger than your prick!") and fulfill Felicia's life-long dream of climbing Kings Canyon dressed in full drag.
On completion of their four-week appearance at the outback resort, Tick and Adam return to Sydney with Benjamin and Bernadette teams up with Bob at the resort to work as drag queens at the hotel.
|Felicia:||Do you know why this microphone has such a long cord?|
|Man In Crowd:||Why?|
|Felicia:||So it's easily retrieved after I've shoved it up your ass.|
