"He disagreed with something that ate him."
Description: Biting pun on a piece of paper found on newlywed CIA agent Felix Leiter (David Hedison) after he had been thrown to the sharks in the James Bond thriller Licence To Kill (1989).
As James Bond (Timothy Dalton) is about to be the Best Man at the wedding of his long time friend CIA agent Felix Leiter (David Hedison), he learns that US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has located drug lord Franz Sanchez (Robert Davi) at the Sugarloaf Airport in the Florida Keys. Dressed in tuxedoes, Bond and Leiter commandeer a US Coast Guard helicopter and snag Sanchez in mid-air as he escapes in a Cessna 172 airplane. With the crook captured, James and Felix skydive down to the church just in time for the ceremony.
|Della Leiter:||[kissing Bond] That's a custom, you see. The bride always gets to kiss her Best Man.|
|James Bond:||I thought it was the other way around.|
|Della Leiter:||Aww... [kisses him again] Oh, James, would you mind? Felix is still in the study and we've got to cut this cake.|
|James Bond:||I'll do anything for a woman with a knife.|
After the wedding, Franz Sanchez escapes custody and seeks vengeance. When James Bond discovers Felix’s murdered bride, Della Churchill (Priscilla Barnes) and Leiter’s near death from a shark bite (he lost his left leg below the knee) Bond becomes a rouge agent, forsaking M and the British Secret Service to avenge his longtime friends.
|M:||You were supposed to be in Istanbul LAST NIGHT! I'm afraid this unfortunate Leiter business has clouded your judgment! "You have a job to do!" I expect you on a plane this afternoon!|
|Bond:||I haven't finished here, sir.|
|M:||Leave it to the Americans! It's their mess. Let them clear it up.|
|Bond:||SIR! They're not going to DO ANYTHING! I owe it to Leiter. He's put his life on the line for me many times.|
|M:||Oh SPARE ME this sentimental RUBBISH! He knew the risks.|
|Bond:||And his WIFE?|
|M:||This private vendetta of yours could easily compromise Her Majesty's government. You have an assignment, and I expect you to carry it out "objectively" and "professionally!"|
|Bond:||Then you have my resignation, sir!|
|M:||We're not a country club, 007! Effective immediately, your licence to kill is revoked, and I require you to hand over your weapon. Now. I need hardly remind you that you're still bound by the Official Secrets Act.|
|Bond:||I guess it's, uh... a farewell to arms.|
Seeking payback, James Bond disrupts the villain's cocaine operations in the Florida Keys by destroying a cache of drugs and stealing his profits. Then Bond befriends Sanchez wins his confidence by saving his life and then continues to do what he can to dismantle Sanchez's drug empire.
When Sanchez accompanies a convoy of tanker trucks transporting cocaine dissolved in petrol to the harbor, Bond, with the assistance from CIA agent Pam Bouvier (Carey Lowell), systematically destroys the tankers.
In a fiery conclusion, Sanchez confronts Bond, and says, "You could have had everything." Bond shows him an engraved gold lighter given to him by Leiter, flicks a flame and torches Sanchez’s gasoline soaked body.
