"You are one dumb son of a bitch, bringing a knife to a gunfight."
Description: Mark Collie as Harry Heck, a bad guy who thinks he has the upper hand against Frank Castle (Thomas Jane) in the motion picture The Punisher (2004).
G-Man Frank Castle (called "the finest soldier, the finest undercover cop, the finest man" by his colleagues) forsakes justice for punishment as he vows vendetta against Howard Saint (John Travolta), the man responsible for the death of his wife and family.
Confronted by two assassins sent by Howard Saint, Harry says, "You can't kill me. I'm already dead," and then wastes the bastards before they know what hit them.
When one of Saint's henchmen Harry Heck pursues Frank, his car crashes and flips over. As Frank crawls from beneath the wrecked vehicle, he sees Harry Heck standing over him with a gun.
As a defense, Frank pulls out a switch blade and challenges Frank who chastises him for being so stupid to think that his knife is any good against a gun. Suddenly, to Heck's surprise, the knife blade launches from its hilt and jams itself into Harry's neck, slashing his carotid artery.
At the conclusion of the film, Frank kills an army of mercenaries, shoots Howard Saint in a face-to-face draw down and then shackles his leg to a limousine which drags Saint's body slowly through a parking lot and finally explodes.
Before Howard Saint dies, The Punisher says, "I made you kill your best friend…I made you kill your wife…and now I’ve killed you." From the sky, the parking lot explosions created the image of a flaming skull, the calling card of...The Punisher.
As a warning to future criminals, Frank Castle leaves these words of wisdom:
"In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law. To pursue natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive, it's an emotional response. No, not vengeance…Punishment” and “Those who do evil to others the killers, the rapists, psychos, sadists you will come to know me well. Frank Castle is dead. Call me: The Punisher."
Note: The trailer for the film states: "They thought they murdered me. They were wrong. They were DEAD wrong." Harry’s take on his form of justice: "This is not revenge…it’s punishment."
In the 1989 trailer for the film The Punisher starring Dolph Lungren, the announcer proclaims:
"If society won't punish the guilty….he will….He defends the innocent, but if you’re guilty, he gives no warning, and shows no mercy….The Punisher…Justice with a vengeance."
