Vampire in Brooklyn - Maximillian the vampire

Description: A vampire named Maximillian (Eddie Murphy) offers his opinion on courting etiquette in the motion picture Vampire in Brooklyn (1995). His limo driver Julius Jones (Kadeem Hardison) had just said, "My pops said the quickest way to a woman's heart is through the church!"

"A long, long time ago, Nosferatu, the undead, the race of the Vampire were driven from Egypt. Most fled to the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania, but others of better taste, including myself, traveled south through Africa and over the Atlantic, to a beautiful island hidden deep in the Bermuda Triangle. There we lived for happy centuries, feasting on the blood of unwary travelers. Until discovered by the hunters once again. Then the blood that spilled was our own. I, alone, escaped. But a Vampire-alone is a Vampire doomed. My chance was to find the one known offspring of our tribe that had been born in a foreign land. A woman, somewhere in this place, called Brooklyn..." - Maximillian the Vampire

Arriving from the Caribbean, Maximillian the vampire crashes his ship into Brooklyn Harbor. The accident attracts the attention of Det. Rita Veder (Angela Bassett) and her partner, Det. Justice (Allen Payne) who investigate the incident and find 18 bodies on the ship. The bodies all drained of blood.

As the ship collided with the docks, ship inspector Silas Green (John Witherspoon) who witnesses the event, shouts, "Who the hell is piloting this vessel? Stevie bleeping Wonder?" Silas also saw a wolf (Maximillian in animal form) exit from the ship.

Det. Justice: So you say you saw...what?
Silas Green: It was a wolf godammit! A big black stinking ass wolf. The motherfucker jumped off the boat and ran over there. And when it got there the son of a bitch turned into a man. He did the flippflopp shit on me... Just like a whore I used to know in Detroit back in '62. I'd go over her house on saturday night... she loved me, man. I'd come through the door, she's a man! Flippfloppin' and shit. You ever seen a motherfucker flippflopp on you and shit like that? In your face trying to flippflopp and shit!
Det. Justice: So the wolf you saw looked something like that?
Silas Green: The wolf? Hell no! That's a chihuahua compared to the motherfucker come at me!

As she pokes about the ship, Det. Veder falls through a rotted board in the floor and discovers a coffin. It belongs to Maximillian, a vampire who has come in search of Det. Veder to recruit her as his wife. Maximillian escapes the clutches of the police and with the help from Julius Jones, a down-trodden guy whom Maximillian saves from a couple of street thugs and turns into a ghoul, they make their way into the city with Maximillian's coffin and take up residence at an apartment which Julius shares with his uncle Silas Green.

"Interesting. I've been stabbed, and I've been hanged, and I've been burned. Even broken on the rack once, but I've never been shot before. Kind of itches a little!" - Maximillian [after being shot]

When Maximillian first set eyes on Det. Veder, he sensed her vampire heritage. Her father was a vampire and her mother was paranormal researcher of the undead, who succumbed to the powers of darkness, which produced a "Dhampir", the daughter of a vampire.

"Evil is good and ass is good, and if you find you a piece of evil ass, WOO!" - Maximillian [as Preacher Pauley]

While Det. Veder hunts for clues to Maximillian's whereabouts, he assumes the disguises of Preacher Pauley, a fiery street minister and a Guido, a brassy, Italian street thug to interfere with Rita's budding romance wither her partner. But it is only when Maximillian saves Rita from a speeding taxi, that she decides to go on a date with the mysterious dark stranger.

Maximillian: I would have you...for dinner. Do you like Italian? I make an excellent fusilli.
Rita: Actually, that's my favorite, but I really think I ought to take a rain check.
Maximillian: Oh, there's someone else.
Rita: Not anymore.
Maximillian: Well, if there's no one else, then I would love to have you... for dinner.
Rita: Look here. I'm a cop.
Maximillian: Ah. The police?
Rita: Mmm-hmm, the law. Which means, if you try anything funny, I'll shoot you.
Maximillian: Do I look like I would bite you?
Rita: You better not, not after the day I've had.
Maximillian: Can I send my car to pick you up in a half-hour?
Rita: Oooh, a car. Let's make it an hour.
Maximillian: I'll see you then.

As Det. Veder and her vampire suitor dance during their dinner engagement, Maximillian bites her neck and begins her transformation into a vampire. While Rita "turns" into one of the undead, she learns that Maximillian is responsible for all of the recent deaths in the city and that Maximillian had been sent to America by her father before he had been killed by vampire hunters. That death explained her mother's sadness and mental instability before she died a few months earlier. It also brought meaning to the strange visions she had been experiencing which contained images of a woman that looked like her.

Vampire in Brooklyn - Rita turns into a vampire

Luckily, her partner Det. Justice comes to her rescue. He sought the help of Dr. Zeko (Zakes Mokae), who provided n ancient dagger that could kill vampires. As Maximillian attempts to convince Veder of the advantages of being one of the undead fail, Rita refuses to be a part of his scheme and using Dr. Zeko's dagger she stabs Maximillian and destroys him.

With his influence over her gone, Rita becomes human again and embraces Det. Justice. Had Rita not restrained her craving for human blood, she would have turned into a full-fledged vampire by the light of the next moon.

With his mentor dead, Julius, whose ghoulish body is nearly decayed, enters Maximillian's limousine and finds his master's ring. As he places it on his finger, his rotting body is restored. Overjoyed, he proclaims, "There's a new vampire in Brooklyn, and his name is Julius Jones!"
